1. What map services are supported?
With Map it! you can create links (URLs) for the following map services:
- Google Maps
- Apple Maps *
- DuckDuckGo Maps (based on Apple Maps)
- Bing Maps
- Waze
- OpenStreetMap
- OsmAnd (based on OpenStreetMap)
* Note: Apple Maps links redirect to Google Maps on non-Apple devices.
2. What happens to my uploaded files?
Uploaded files are deleted immediately after processing. No data is stored on the server.
3. I want to enter coordinates manually. What formats are supported?
All three common geographic coordinate formats are supported:
Decimal Degrees (DD)
Latitude (-90 to 90) and longitude (-180 to 180) with up to 6 decimal places.
Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS)
Degrees (0 to 89, 0 to 179) and minutes (0 to 59) as integers. Seconds (0 to 59.9999) with up to 4 decimal places.
Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDM)
Degrees (0 to 89, 0 to 179) as integers. Minutes (0 to 59.9999) with up to 4 decimal places.
4. No GPS data is recognized for mobile photo uploads. Why?
On mobile devices, an image with zeroed-out GPS data is sometimes selected instead of the original file for privacy reasons. This behavior is known to occur on Android devices when using the so-called „media picker“. To ensure the original file with GPS data is uploaded, always use the system’s file picker or file manager.
5. Is Map it! also available as a mobile app?
Yes, you can install Map it! from the Google Play Store. It is not available on Apple’s App Store, but you can alternatively install it as a progressive web app via your browser. This works on both mobile and desktop devices.
